At the end of March 2022 Prof. Dr. Magnus Fröhling and Vanessa Heinrich from the Professorship of Circular Economy at the TUM Campus Straubing travelled to Ghana. The research visit, funded by the TUM Global Incentive Fund, aimed at investigating innovative ideas and concepts for sustainable e-waste management in Ghana by connecting with key stakeholders from academia (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast), politics (Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology & Innovation) and society (GIZ, Caritas, start-up hubs like Kumasi Hive). The fruitful discussions and research interviews provided instructive insights into the e-waste ecosystem in Kumasi and Accra, including potential starting points for closing resource loops and capacity building. The most promising project ideas are now further developed in collaboration with our partners towards a long-term, future-oriented and interdisciplinary cooperation on Circular Economy.
