The concept of Circular Economy (CE) is widely discussed in business, academia, and policy to address a dual challenge: to transform practices from being significant negative to positive contributors to sustainable change.
CE is a multifaceted concept that intersects various fields such as economics, environmental science, engineering, and social sciences, requiring a common language and understanding for field specific perspectives. However, the complexity of the field causes CE to be understood differently across various fields. As enabler of CE knowledge transfer, the TUM Mission Network Circular Economy (CirculaTUM) bundles insights from different disciplines in the fields of Industrial Value Creation, Built Environment, Bioeconomy, and Cross-disciplinary fields. CirculaTUM holds therefore the opportunity to establish transparency in CE interpretation and to foster a holistic understanding that provides a base for future research. This thesis aims to shed light on the networks understanding of CE by gathering insights from the perspective of multiple disciplines, laying the foundation for a comprehensive and nuanced definition that reflects its complexity.
