On 14.11.22, students of the modules Sustainable Production and Environmental Management had the opportunity to learn more about BMW’s current sustainability strategy.

Mr. Martinez von Bülow (Head of Product Sustainability) gave in his guest lecture “Aspects of Product Sustainability in the Automotive Industry” exciting insights into the current strategies and measures aimed at transforming BMW into a holistic sustainable company. According to him, a major challenge is faced in measuring Scope 3 emissions, which are generated in the automotive manufacturing supply chain, and achieving the set target of a 20 percent reduction.

Exciting case studies on the topic of circular design and the associated question of which materials will play a central role in the automobile in the future rounded off the inspiring presentation. Afterwards, the students had the opportunity to participate in the discussion round with Mr. Martinez von Bülow about the lecture contents.
