Our research aims to contribute to the sustainable transformation of the economy and society. The core of our work is the development, analysis, evaluation and optimisation of Circular Economy and Bioeconomy solutions. The scope of consideration extends from technical to socio-economic systems and includes esp. innovation, business models and regulatory frameworks. We develop and use the methodological toolset of Life Cycle (Sustainability) Assessment (LC(S)A) and Material Flow Analysis (MFA). The core methods are Environmental LCA, Techno-Economic Assessments (TEA) and Social LCA (sLCA). These are combined with process simulations, e.g. to estimate the necessary inventory data and methods of business model innovation. In order to optimise the systems and / or analyse their development over time and under specific conditions, we combine the above-mentioned methods with optimisation and simulation methods from Operations Research.
