In July 2023, two groups of students were able to successfully present their results, which they had developed during the project study in cooperation with BMW and which was supervised by the Chair of Circular Economy.

How do we promote exchange between industry, society, education, and research to advance the Circular Economy globally? How can synergies be created between industry, politics, and science? At TUM, more than 100 researchers from over 30 institutes are addressing these questions as members of Germany’s largest research network, “TUM Mission Network Circular Economy” (CirculaTUM).

While relevant theories and concepts lay the foundation for understanding the subject in the classroom, it is through real-life experiences that we witness the application and intricacies of those principles. With this in mind, Prof. Dr. Magnus Fröhling and Vanessa Heinrich from the Professorship of Circular Economy organized a field trip for students to Munich.

As an integral part of their studies, students of Bioeconomy and Sustainable Management & Technology at the TUM Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability take part in a workshop on the topic of electronic waste.

On Friday, April 28th, a group of TUM Straubing students kicked off the project studies with the Chair of Circular Economy (Prof. Fröhling and Vanessa Heinrich) and BMW at their Research and Innovation Center (FIZ) in Munich.

On February 1st, 2023, the Kick-off Meeting for the research project “Timber Use and Maintain – TU&M”, started on January 1st the same year, was held at the Wood Research Institute in Munich. The project aims to develop circular timber frame elements considering their technical, environmental and economic feasibility.

Organized by Circularity e.V., a professional network and innovative do tank in the field of Circular Economy, and with the collaboration of Vanessa Heinrich (Professorship Circular Economy), more than 45 company representatives from the entire value chain of the consumer electronics industry came together for two days on January 10-11, 23.

Together with Amundi, the leading European asset manager, and GreenGame, a young consultancy in the field of sustainable sponsoring, Vanessa Heinrich (Chair of Circular Economy) supervised the project studies in the winter semester 2022/23 on the topic of “Tennis and Sustainability”.

Within the module „Sustainable Production“ the students’ were offered the possibility to participate in a Design Thinking workshop, led by Vanessa Heinrich (Chair of Circular Economy).

Together with African and Bavarian, but also European and international actors from science, industry and the public sector, the Chair of Circular Economy participated in the Cooperation Lounge Bavaria – Africa, organized by the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFor).

On 14.11.22, students of the modules Sustainable Production and Environmental Management had the opportunity to learn more about BMW’s current sustainability strategy.
